all three are seen to be related to verse 27 of chapter 1. In other words, they describe the kind of conduct which is appropriate to the gospel. It is the references which Paul makes to himself in this section which establish the connection with what has gone before. In verse 12 he again speaks about his being absent or present and in verses 17 and 18 of the possibility, which he cannot totally exclude, of his being taken from them.
